Apollo, it has to be said, stands out for all the wrong reasons! It was the first game where I have had three anarchies in the same game and as such was a huge disappointment to me. Italy at least had the courtesy to apologise and explain his anarchy and asked me to pass on his apologies to the rest of the players. Obviously that meant the number of NMR's was fairly impressive and I think, although I couldn't swear to it, that the only person not to NMR was England so there is a some justice to it I suppose. Congratulations to Paul for winning and the others who survived for hanging on in a difficult in positon.

Regards, Andy

Thanks to Andy for GM'ing this game even though it was very disappointing. 3 anarchies and numerous NMR's pretty much spoiled it. I tried in the early turns to ally with Russia, Turkey, and Italy. Each one NMR'ed after I presumably made an agreement with them. So in the early turns, I generally flailed about not accomplishing much at all.

Then horrors of horrors, I had my first ever NMR. At this point, I had both Germany and England trying to get me to ally with them. As England was the only one who had not once had an NMR, I felt it would be better to do whatever I could to get England teh win. I briefly thought of doing a stab on the last season, as I had a reasonable chance for going for the win, but with so many anarchies and NMRs, I felt the win would be tainted.

First off, I'd like to thank Andy for his patience with this game. It must have been incredibly frustrating to deal with such a number of NMRs throughout the game. As to the game, this was my first time playing online, my only previous Diplomacy experience being live games. So my goal was to make as many friends as possible and hope to have the opportunity to pick and choose the relationship(s) that suited me best. Unfortunately, my original potential allies - RUS and ITA - never really got it going, each with an early NMR. RUS, sorry, but when I saw that, I sensed our relationship would not survive in the long run and I took advantage of your miscue. ITA, again, I think we could have made some interesting plans if you were able to spend a little more time with the game. GER then became a formidable friend in helping to eliminate FRA (sorry, Alex, but with E, F and I, FRA was doomed from the start). Together, ENG and GER were looking quite powerful (having a combined total of 17 centres by S04) so I was quite shocked at the stab in A04, especially when, no offence, GER did not possess the naval power to make any ground in the North Sea or the Channel. I must admit, though, after the stab, I was quite convinced I was in serious trouble when I saw the potential for a Ger/Aus to back me out of Russian territory. So I'd have to say the turning point of the game was AUS's decision to not lend his support in the GER attack, but instead for forge a relationship with me that clearly helped us both in the end - ENG to win and AUS to survive. Thanks to Matt for that. Though perhaps it is a little tainted by the number of NMRs, I'll happily take the solo! Hope to catch up with some of you in other games, hopefully under better circumstances.
