First of all a big thank you to all the players as there was no anarchies and few nmr's which is pleasant.
Turkey was by far the deserved winner of this game although he had some strokes of luck along the way. Namely England's attack early
on meant Russia had no friends and suffered accordingly. Italy played without fleets is novel, and whilst not played badly it meant there
was simply no opposition to the Turkish fleets. And finally the mind numbing oblivion by the Northern three to the state of the rest of the
board. Admittedly England's fight back to clear their land of French when they had lost two home SC's was quite impressive and
deserving of a mention
My one complaint of this game has been the lack of EGS submitted so if you want to submit one now then send it to me and I will see it
is added.
See you all again some time :-))
Regards,
Andy Scott
ENGLAND : Reinout Boven
I would like to start by thanking Andy for his excellent GMing and my fellow players for an enjoyable game.
The first adjudication saw me moving northwards and france going to the ENG, and forced me to cover Lon next season. in the early
stages of the game, france was however occupied with beating Germany, which left me able to grab a few centres in Scandinavia and
northern Russia.
I unfortunatley made a stupid NMR, sorry about that, no good excuses, and therefore didnt build a crucial fleet in Lon, and was unable
to support the Russian fleet in Swe, which fell in German hands, but fortunatly Germany used it to build an army to counter the French.
due to this, France shifted his attention to a British invasion whilst i focussed on my advance in Scandinavia against Germany who was
supporting me at the time. his fleets were badly placed though and i felt i needed the SCs more than he did.
The following years saw France consuming the British island, except Edi, and only because of my SCs in Scandinavia/StP could
I provide enough units to slow France down. Fortunatly I had a good guess and was able to build a badly needed army in Edi and from
that point, with German help, was slowly able to kick France out of my home country.
Meanwhile, Turkey was gobbling up the entire southeast ratherly unopposed, and its a pity France didnt see this threat earlier and didnt
move his fleets towards the med sooner. After the Edi army was built and the German fleet which, obviously didnt want French
domination in England, France should have taken his losses and defended his southern side against the rapidly growing yellow fleets.
Eventually I had complete control over England, and most of Scandinavia, but had nothing to attack without giving wrong signs and
making things even easier for Turkey. In the end I could do nothing but encourage Germany and especially France to deal with the
Turkish threat but by then it was already too late.
Oh well, it was a good game, congrats to Turkey for a solid win and see you around the board
cheers ,
Reinout
GERMANY : Ally Bain
Before briefly commenting on the game, a big thanks to Andy for GMing it. Yes, I know he lost some of my orders as I'm sure, in fact
know, I would have solo'd in A06. In my dreams! :-) Joking aside, thanks Andy (but not for losing them).
Well done Abd al-Hamid II, good win & in all fairness, helped by us in the Western Corner. If players are wondering about how we
helped Ottoman win, it's too simple.
When playing any game but perhaps more so in Gunboat, you have to look at all countries & if you see a solo happening, you're aim
should be to stop it. You can't stop a solo if you're still being attacked from those around you & this game showed the point.
I'm not too sure which season but I did A(Mun)-Tyr. Countries should look at that & think, "Why has he done that"?
If you're still wondering, look at A03. In S03 I supported England, in A03 the Tommy sailed to SKA. Granted in S04 he didn't go to any
of my provinces but SKA isn't a friendly sea. A04 & that was it England in Swe. At that stage, not much has really happening in the
Eastern Square so punch-ups, in my area, were Ok.
A05, time to consider Turkey.
S06, do A(Mun)-Tyr to help out Italy & hopefully England & France will see it. A06, solo is on therefore come on England & France,
cause a cease-fire, look I'm supporting the pair of you & putting my fleet to help Russia.
S07, good France sailed south. A07, England you fool! Look at my orders & then look at my number of armies! France, are you thick or
stupid? Can't the pair of you see the Turks will win?
In short, that wee set of comments mean it all. Yes, Turkey won & well done but to all, each time you see moves, in Gunboat, think
things through more than once. If you're still missing it, remember that in Gunboat games we can't do; Germany; A(Mun) S English
A(Lon)-Con & Germany; F(BAL) S French F(MAO)-Smy.
Either way, as some may know I keep stats & the Openings & Endings are shown on ALB & GSB:

See you on the boards.

This was my first game for about ten years after stumbling into the Dip 2000 website.
I decided to attack Russia first and hope that Italy and Austria would cross swords and leave me alone for a while. After a modest start I
was able to keep Russia at arms length and "help" Italy against Austria. I noticed that Italy hadn`t built any fleets so I managed to spread
my wings into the Med unmolested.
My attack on Italy went very well. Italy`s armies were mostly engaged in the Balkans and I`m sure the Austrian fleet was a serious
annoyance to him. Meanwhile in the north, Germany, England and France were slugging it out and were too busy to get involved in my
little war until it was almost too late for them.
After Italy fell, the Northern hostilities ceased and the race to 18 sc`s was on. Although Russia NMR`ed War was a certainty for me. The
only move that could stop me in Spa was France A (Bre) - Por in spring 1910 with convoys from F (MAO) and F (ENG)
I would like to thank my fellow players for their commitment and to Andy for GM`ing the game
Regards
Aidan Slattery
