GM : Andy Scott
First of all another huge apology from me for the amount of time it has taken me to get these EGS out, Sorry!
Southern was a game that was played competently by good players, no one had a blinder though and the talented pack was always
ready to counter any strong individual breaks. Hence why I think the four way was probably a fair result!
Thanks to all the players, as a GM this was a breeze :-)) The only disap[pointment is the slight lack of EGS but with my record I can
hardly talk!
See you all again soon, Andy
AUSTRIA : Philip Chilvers
In spite of my brief participation in the game, I feel it only polite that I submit an EGP.
I made a pretty standard start to the game but unfortunately Italy’s initial moves were definitely anti-Austrian. Add to that a Russian army
in Gal and things were not looking good for me. Italy and I swapped supply centres in the first Autumn turn, with me one unit ahead. In
1902 things became even more complex; in the Spring I reoccupied Tri whilst Bud was occupied by the Russians and Vie by the
Italians; in the Autumn move I retained ownership of Ven and Bud, gained War but lost Ser to Russia and Vie to Italy. By 1903 I was
reduced to Bud and then I had to take an early bath in 1904.
I would like to say thanks to everyone who participated in the game and congratulations to France, Italy and Russia. Thanks to Andy for
being the GM, for giving up his time and for running the game.
Philip (Austria)
ITALY : Gavin Nochomovitz
First of all, many thanks to Andy for his hard work GM’ing this epic battle. He deserves all the credit in the world.
Although I was playing two other games at the same time, this turned out to be the most interesting. I started out in a bit of a stalemate
with Austria, but a very fortunate NMR led to my breakthrough. Many regards to an excellent Austrian dictator.
Once Russia, Turkey and I were able to make it into the Balkans, it became another stalemate with Turkey that would last the rest of the
game.
Kudos to Turkey and Russia for keeping things interesting. All the best to the rest of the players.
Italy
RUSSIA : Martin Styler
I've played quite a few Gunboat games and this was one in which I definitely felt the need for some diplomacy. Playing Russia is always
an enjoyable experience but I felt the need for an ally to help me to dominance in either the North or the South. As an example, it would
have been great to talk to Italy to see what we could do together.
From what I remember I was helped in the North by NMRs from my nearest two rivals so I think myself lucky to have got as far as I did.
Once France decided to send his entire fleet northwards my adventure was more or less over. I was hoping that Italy might move more
quickly against him but it was not to be. As Andy so helpfully pointed out, once things were well-matched in the North it was time to
propose a draw.
Many thanks to Andy for GMing and to the others for a good, fun game.
Regards,Martin.
