I'm Ally Bain & as you know I'm your GM for this game. By being neutral I can able to answer any questions as long as they don't upset my status in the game.
My son & I have a number of tropical freshwater fish tanks & therefore I've called the game 'Blue Gularis' as this is a common name for a fish. Blue Gularis, Aphyosemion sjoestedti as their scientific name, is in the Cyprinids family. They are good jumpers & hence an aquarium must be covered or else.... The males are aggressive with the females not being too bad. In the wild they come from Cameroon & Nigeria with their size going to 10cm. Future maps will have a picture of them.
Very soon you'll get a separate e-mail from me in which I'll state your country. Within a handful of days you must submit this season's orders. The reason being that if I don't receive orders from one or more players, the game will be delayed until they have been replaced.
Sadly during games, people often NMR. I would ask that you consider how long games last and if you feel you cannot continue playing for that period of time, I would ask that you to notify me. As an example, I would think the game will last for up to 6 months however as this is a Gunboat game & if I've got a full set of orders, before the Deadline, I can adjudicate which means the game will last less than 6 months.
When submitting orders to me please state in the Subject, Blue Gularis - - . The reason behind that is that I'm involved in a good number of games & time is an essence.
The Deadline is 5pm (GMT), 9th February 2006.
Regarding myself, about three years ago I wrote an auto-biog & within it, I wrote about my son (Graeme), the lobotomy I had, my career & a number of other things, etc. Sadly I haven't updated it for quite a while so what I'll do in this e-mail is mention the slight changes & hopefully anyone who reads the, slightly out-of-date auto-biog (http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/alb_gsb/authors/ally.htm), knows my background. :-)
June 2005 I moved in with Sally, my fiancée, & we live near Sudbury, Suffolk. To those unaware of Britain, Sudbury is about 20 miles north-west of Colchester, Essex. Colchester is the oldest town in Britain & to those who don't know where that town is, it's about 50 miles north-east of London. If you don't know where London is, ..... no comment. :-)
Regarding our home, we managed to get Planning Permission for the extension & garage which now leads us on to getting Buildings Regulations. Once that is done, the joy of building them comes into play. :-/
Diplomacy 2000 houserules, http://www.lancedal.demon.co.uk/dip2000/diprules/diprules.htm, apply except the following:
1. All players' identities will be kept secret until the end of the game.
2. There is to be no diplomacy between players. If you accidentally find out who a fellow player is then you must not talk to him about the game. If you do you will be ejected.
3. Deadlines will normally be weekly but as soon as I get a full set of orders, etc, I'll adjudicate. If however they are marked ‘Provisional Orders’, the adjudication will not be done until after the Deadline.
4. Avoid submitting an invalid misorders. For example in spring 1901 if Italy orders A(Ven) s RUSSIAN A(Gal)-Vie [to tell Russia he wants an alliance against Austria] this will be reported as A(Ven) Stands as it's an invalid misorder. If however Austria orders F(Tri)-Alb and Italy A(Ven) s AUSTRIAN F(Tri) then the latter will simply be reported as a misorder.
5. End Game Proposals (EGP) aren't allowed until after A05. After A05, any EGP must be a fair reflection on the state of the board when the EGP is presented. If it isn't, I'll not display it. When EGP are shown, players must submit together with their orders, etc, their vote. Failure to vote equals 'yes' to the EGP.
6. No press, shown in the adjudication, is allowed expect from me.
