GAMESTART INFORMATION

In case you don't know me, I'm your GM & by being so I'm neutral. I'm able to answer any questions as long as they don't upset my status in the game.

My son & I have a number of tropical freshwater fish tanks & therefore I have called the game 'Golden Pencilfish' as this is a common name for a fish. Golden Pencilfish, Nannaostomus beckfordi as their scientific name, is in the Characins family. They're peaceful but timid fish & generally more active at night. During the day they tend to hide between leaves & are often seen motionless with them resting at an angle & hence the word 'pencil' is used in their common name. Their natural habitat is in Southern America between Guyana to Brazil. Their maximum size is 7cm. You will able to see, in future maps, a picture of the fish.

Soon I'll write to you separately & mention your country. The deadline is Spring 1901 deadline; 5pm BST, 29th August 2005 however I require orders in three days, just to prove all seven are playing. Given the fact this game doesn't have 'real' negotiation, I'll adjudicate unless you submit 'Provisional Orders'. As I'm sure you'll gather, Gunboat can be a fast game.

Every time you submit you orders, etc, MAY sure you have written, in the subject, 'Golden Pencilfish - - '. If you're wondering why you have to do that, I play & GM a good number of games & without you doing it, my time takes longer.

Rules

This is a link to the Houserules http://www.lancedal.demon.co.uk/dip2000/diprules/diprules.htm however bear in mind that these are for normal games & below are those that overwrite those said in that link at this is a Gunboat game.

1. All players' identities will be kept secret until the end of the game.

2. There is to be no diplomacy between players. If you accidentally find out who a fellow player is then you must not talk to him about the game. If you do you will be ejected.

3. Avoid invalid misorders. For example in Spring 1901 if Italy orders A(Ven) s RUSSIAN A(Gal)-Vie [to tell Russia he wants an alliance against Austria] this will be reported as 'A(Ven) Stands'. However if Austria orders F(Tri)-Alb and Italy A(Ven) s AUSTRIAN F(Tri) then the latter will be shown but beside it will say 'Misorder'.

4. End Game Proposals (EGP) aren't allowed until after A05. After A05, any EGP must be a fair reflection on the state of the board when the EGP is presented. If it isn't, the GM will not display it. When EGP are shown, players must submit together with their orders, etc, their vote. Failure to vote equals 'yes' to the EGP.

5. No press bar me.

6. Deadlines will normally be weekly but as soon as I get 'non-provisional' full set of orders, I'll adjudicate.
