My son & I have five tropical freshwater fish tanks & therefore I have called the game 'Tinfoil Barb' as this is a common name for a fish. Tinfoil Barb, Barbus schwanefeldi as their scientific name, is in the Cyprinids family. This is a lovely looking fish however novice aquarists do get caught by them buying them. Their maximum size is 14", they jump & will eat smaller fish together with plants. Due to the maximum size, many unknown buyers aren't aware of that size & often put them in a too small tank. In the wild their found in southeast Asia. You will be able to see, in future maps, a picture of the fish.
The deadline is Spring 1901 deadline; 19:00 GMT, 22nd February 2004 however I require orders in three days, just to prove all seven are playing. Given the fact this game doesn't have 'real' negotiation, I'll adjudicate unless you submit 'Provisional Orders'. As I'm sure you'll gather, Gunboat can be a fast game.
Regarding me, I live in Chelmsford, Essex, England. Even though I live in England I am a Scot. I am 40 years old & have been happily divorced for many years. I have an 13-year-old son, called Graeme, who lives with his Mum in Faversham, Kent. Outside Diplomacy & aquariums, I enjoy football & go to Jive dances. My son & I have created our own Web Site, http://mysite.freeserve.com/alb_gsb which has a lot of Diplomacy articles including the stats on Gunboat Openings.
Rules
The Houserules for Dip2000 can be seen on http://www.lancedal.demon.co.uk/dip2000/diprules/diprules.htm however those below over-write parts mentioned there.
1. All players' identities will be kept secret until the end of the game.
2. There is to be no diplomacy between players. If you accidentally find out who a fellow player is then you must not talk to him about the game. If you do you will be ejected.
3. Avoid obvious deliberate misorders. For example in Spring 1901 if Italy orders A(Ven) s RUSSIAN A(Gal)-Vie [to tell Russia he wants an alliance against Austria] this will be reported as A(Ven) stands [the GM might also report this as a misorder]. However if Austria orders F(Tri)-Alb and Italy A(Ven) s AUSTRIAN F(Tri) then the latter will simply be reported as a misorder.
4. End Game Proposals (EGP) aren't allowed until after A05. After A05, any EGP must be a fair reflection on the state of the board when the EGP is presented. If it isn't, the GM will not display it. When EGP are shown, players must submit together with their orders, etc, their vote. Failure to vote equals 'yes' to the EGP. Regarding whether an EGP will see you through to the next round, rules from 12 explain it.
5. No press bar me.
6. Deadlines will normally be weekly but as soon as I get 'non-provisional' full set of orders, I'll adjudicate.
