I am Ally Bain & as you know I am your GM for this game. I am neutral & by being so I am able to answer any questions as long as they do not upset my status in the game.
My son & I have five tropical freshwater fish tanks & therefore I have called the game 'X-ray Tetra' as this is a common name for a fish. X-ray Tetra, often called Pristella Tetra as a common name & Pristella riddlei as their scientific name, are in the 'Characins' family & are small shoaling fish. Their natural habitat is in the northern South America & their colour is rather transluscent to semi-transparent. Future maps will have a picture of some of them & the slender one will be the male.
X-ray Tetra, other than a fish, is a Gunboat game therefore you will not know who is playing & equally you will not know their e-mail addresses. I ask that you do not mention that you are playing in a Gunboat on this site. The point being that they might be in the game.
Due to 'Encarta' I was able to find the leaders, in 1901, of all countries (expect Britain & a book was used for that one!) & you will notice they have been listed beside the countries.
Within three days you must submit this seasons orders. The reason being that if I do not receive orders from one or more players, the game will be delayed until they have been replaced. During this & any other season you can inform me that they are your final orders (together with possible retreats, possible builds/disbands & any press). If I receive seven 'final' orders, etc, prior to the deadline, I can adjudiciate the moves, etc. N.B. Receiving 'final' orders makes the game run fast & is very enjoyable.
Sadly during games, people often NMR. I would ask that you consider how long games last and if you feel you cannot continue playing for that period of time, I would ask that you to notify me.
The deadline is 7pm Bristish Summer Time (BST), 20th May 2002. In case you do not know, on the 31st March our clocks went one hour forward & hence we are at BST.
The countries armies and fleets are as follows:
AUSTRIA-HUNGARY - Francis Joseph F (Tri); A (Bud); A (Vie)
ENGLAND - Marquess Salisbury F (Edi); F (Lon); A (Lpl)
FRANCE - Emile Loubet F (Bre); A (Mar); A (Par)
GERMANY - Otto van Bismarck F (Kie); A (Ber); A (Mun)
ITALY - Giovanni Giolitta F (Nap); A (Rom); A (Ven)
RUSSIA - Nicolas II F (Sev); F (StPsc); A (Mos); A (War)
TURKEY - Abd al-Hamid II F (Ank); A (Con); A (Smy)
Regular Diplomacy rules and Diplomacy 2000 houserules apply except for the following: 1. All players' identities will be kept secret until the end of the game. 2. There is to be no diplomacy between players. If you accidentally find out who a fellow player is then you must not talk to him about the game. If you do you will be ejected. 3. Avoid obvious deliberate misorders. For example in Spring 1901 if Italy orders A(Ven) s RUSSIAN A(Gal)-Vie [to tell Russia he wants an alliance against Austria] this will be reported as A(Ven) stands [the GM might also report this as a misorder]. However if Austria orders F(Tri)-Alb and Italy A(Ven) s AUSTRIAN F(Tri) then the latter will simply be reported as a misorder. 4. Your GM might not allow frivolous game end proposals. For example a two way draw proposed in Spring 1901. 5. Players may submit humorous press as long as this cannot be construed as negotiation. 6. Deadlines will normally be weekly but as soon as the GM gets a full set of orders he may adjudicate. If there are any questions check with your GM.
Regular Diplomacy rules & Diplomacy 2000 housrules: 1. This game will be run to the Diplomacy2000 houserules, found here at: www.lancedal.demon.co.uk/dip2000/diprules/rulesidx.htm. If you have not read them then I suggest you visit the Diplomacy2000 website and do so, and even print them off and keep them handy. The most important rule being that...deception of the GM is not permitted under any circumstances...
2. All players are expected to participate until their role in the game ends - either the game being completed (several months duration), or the player being eliminated. If you do not think you can give that level of commitment then let me know now so that I can arrange for you to be replaced. In the event of any drop-outs (two consecutive misses) after the game has started, the country concerned will be placed in anarchy and all units will stand. The player dropping out will not be replaced, and in addition will almost certainly not be allowed into any other Diplomacy 2000 games.
3. The Spring 1901 (S01) deadline will be 20th May 2002, 7pm (BST) but I need to hear from you all as soon as possible (within 3 days at most or you will be kicked off the game): (a) confirming your intention to play (b) supplying me with a set of provisional or FINAL Spring 1901 orders
The game will be run on a '2-season per game year' basis, so conditional retreats/disbands should be sent along with all orders, and conditional builds/disbands should be submitted along with Autumn (Fall) orders. There are no separate seasons for the retreat and build/disband phases. When submitting your orders please ensure they are complete or only the orders you have enclosed with your latest e-mail will be processed. For example, you send me an e-mail saying, "I want to order A(Bul)-Ser and all other orders are as per my previous e-mail of orders", I will order all units to hold unordered except for A(Bul), which will move to Ser. Prevent yourself becoming the object of derision of your fellow players in this way by ensuring you submit complete sets of orders only.
4. I will acknowledge receipt of all orders. If you have not received a confirmation of receipt of your orders within 24 hours I would advise you to resubmit them. I would advise that you send provisional orders to me as soon as possible each season. This is a good habit as PCs and servers have a habit of crashing at the most awkward moments, or illness might strike, or other commitments might cause you to forget the deadline. You can always change your orders as many times as you wish at any time up to the deadline. If you do miss a deadline then do not complain because I certainly will not readjudicate the game. Just ensure you get your orders in for the following season.
5. I will accept orders (or revised orders) at any time up to when I adjudicate. This will normally be within a few hours of the deadline, or if Gunboat, when all finals are in. I do try to make allowances for the different time zones but I will not deliberately delay adjudication if orders are missing.
6. Please ensure all e-mails to me bear the name of the game, the season, and the country you are playing. I cannot always remember just who is playing in which game! It will help my filing system and make life simpler for me. Should your e-mail address change then advise me immediately or you may not receive the next adjudication.
7. Deadlines will normally be ONE WEEK apart, or if Gunboat, when all orders are in. Generally speaking I will not accept requests to extend deadlines for your personal reasons, except in extreme circumstances. Holidays, exams and working away, I do not consider to be extreme circumstances, and it is the responsibility of each player to ensure their orders have reached me on time.
8. Press will be accepted. Press from me will carry the dateline, 'ALB', yourselves from your capital or country followed by 'Govt' incase you have lost your capital. I enjoy press, so please send some, as this adds to the games over-all feel.
9. Shortly after the adjudication I will make a map of the game & this will be shown on the web site for Dip2000. If you have not received the adjudication (or an explanation for any delay) within 24 hours of the deadline, please e-mail me; if this has no response, e-mail the Diplomacy 2000 head honcho, Tom Tweedy, at tom@lancedal.demon.co.uk.
I know this was long winded but I hope you realise why.
Regarding me, I live in Chelmsford, Essex, England. Even though I live in England I am a Scot. I am 3* years old and have been happily divorced for many years. I have an 11-year-old son, called Graeme. Outside Diplomacy & fish I enjoy football, keep & go to Jive dances.
