PRESS Andy-All: Please don't forget the retreats for Spring 1902. Andy-All: Please can you all remember to label your orders with the game name - Your power - and the season the orders are for. Ber-All: The Kaiser wishes to announce that the recent communications problems have been dealt with and all diplomatic channels are open. Rom-All: War Dispatches from Roma (November 1901): Due to a series of unpredictable events and a breakdown in the Servizio per le Informazioni e la Sicurezza Militare, the Italian Bureau of Intelligence otherwise know as SISMI, the Italian Army made a feint toward our trusted ally France, hoping to repel an expected attack by their forces in Marseilles. Obviously, this was a knee-jerk reaction to rumor and innuendo spread by evil forces trying to break apart what was known to be two world powers with friendly relations. Their efforts to sour a longstanding friendship were not effective...at first. Apparently, deep in the bowels of Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Peter Morano started thinking about the current situation and opted to make a grab for additional power. Morano was heard to say, "I don't like the fact that we moved our Army to Piedmont...but we might as well act like everyone else in this crazy world and try to improve our position. It's not like we're straying far from our borders...and besides, Nice and Marseilles have an Italian air about them. It is, after all, the Mediterranean. Just consider these troop movements a minor effort to get some...how do say...breathing room for Italy." Morano continued, "With our Fleet sqaurely in Tunis, we should be able to butress our position in order to keep out the marauding hordes that have started to light this world on fire. As I stated before, Italy is a peaceful nation only looking to live on our tranquil peninsula and harbor those people around the world who look to us as an example of how to live our lives exerting the least amount of energy possible." "Unfortunately, circumstances - especially in this situation - dictated our actions. As we say in Italy, a mali estremi, estremi rimedi (desperate times call for desperate measures). As the world should well know from the height of the Roman Empire, Italy is very loyal to its friends and ferocious to its enemies...as we say to our enemies, al contadino non far sapere quanto è buono il formaggio con le pere (don't let the farmer know how good cheese is with pears)." "No, no...THAT's NOT IT ! We say to them a tutto c'è rimedio, fuorchè alla morte (there is a cure for everything except death)." "So don't come knocking at Italian doors or we'll open up a can of whoop-ass on you !" Andy-All: Excellent press Peter thank you, although we could do with a few more contributions from everyone else? Please note that there is a one day deadline extension as I will not be back from holiday until that Tuesday. As I will be away there will be no receipts until I get back and am about to adjudciate any way so please take care and double check your orders. Remember if you are unsure right it out fully to avoid a misunderstanding! Spring 1902 DEADLINE: 09:00 GMT, Tuesday 29th August, 2006.
