PRESS Andy-All: Please don't forget the retreats and BUILDS for Autumn 1902. Andy-All: Please can you all remember to label your orders with the game name - Your power - and the season the orders are for. Andy-Tur: Please contact me ASAP to confirm your intention to continue! Aus-All: The Austro-Hungarian Emporer issued a statement on his current foreign policy last night, proclaiming that our small nation shall no longer be ruled by the whims of others. He also said that regretably he had taken the step to declare war on Turkey in responce to the countries inability to communciate more than once a year, and those that were recieved being unappropriate to the extremes to the current situation or politics. The recent build of a Fleet in Smyrna has been seen as very anti Austrian. Hopefully the rest of Europe will understand this problem as the Emporer doubts that Austria are the only ones who are having difficulties such as this. He also wishes to add that he hopes everyone is well and having a great summer. From the Oracle of Greece: "What if a demon were to creep after you one night, in your loneliest loneliness, and say, 'This life which you live must be lived by you once again and innumerable times more; and every pain and joy and thought and sigh must come again to you, all in the same sequence. The eternal hourglass will again and again be turned and you with it, dust of the dust!' Would you throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse that demon? Or would you answer, 'Never have I heard anything more divine'?" Rom-All: War Dispatches from Roma (June 1902): As the conflagration that has consumed Europe begins to spread, the Italian citizens of Marseilles often hear the low rumble of artillery in the distance. General Toto Schillaci has even seen two mighty French armies converging on his positions and wired back to Roma that he has ordered his forces to do two things: Dig in and wait for the impending attack AND Be ready to move at a moment's notice in a retreat toward France's interior. Prime Minister Morano, when he heard of these contradictory orders, asked General Schillaci why he was trying to confuse his own men. The General said, "My dear Prime Minister, do you not know anything of history? Have you not learned from the Generals Grant and Sherman of the United States during their civil war?" Morano sheepishly replied, "No." Taken aback, Schillaci launched into a treatise on how Grant's Union Army first took the chance of cutting itself off from its own supply lines during the siege of Vicksburg. After that, Sherman used the same tactic, but multiplied it by a factor of ten when he marched his army, in a broad swath of at least 70 miles wide, from Atlanta to Savannah from November to December of 1864. "General Sherman was a genius...and so am I. So the possibility of being cut off from my supply lines does not worry me...for my brave army doesn't need constant contact with our own forces to sustain itself. We can pillage the towns of southern France, drinking their wine and wooing their women, while my staff works to take Spain, Brest, or Paris." General Schillaci went on to say, "While I am particularly fond of Spain, with their handsome women and sweet tasting Sangria...I have a love for Paris, with its incredible light, that puts it above any rival place I know. Of course, the lovely little tarts in Clichy and Pigalle are a wonder to behold...and Le Lapin Agile always puts on a great show. I even met a friendly painter named Modigliani while visiting that fine establishment and felt sorry for him...so I bought one of his crazy paintings." After being humbled by General Schillaci's diatribe, the Prime Minister shouted "Enough ! I do not have to be lectured by a soldier on the finer points of life...or the less than fine art of bedding ladies of the evening. Submit your plan by tomorrow morning or be relieved of command. I cannot have you recalling your boyhood memories during these grave events. If you lose this army, my government will be overthrown...which, when you think about it, is long overdue. Since past Italian governments don't usually last more than three weeks, my days are numbered unless you provide me with victories. And if you don't supply me with victories, I will recall the times of ancient Roma and you will provide me with your head !" At the end of Morano's outburst, the snivelling, traitorous snake of a man, David Wigglesworth approached the Prime Minister and asked to speak with the great man privately. As Wigglesworth whispered in his ear, Morano became animated...and then cried out, "NO ! That's impossible !" After a few seconds more, Prime Minister Morano's expression turned from his normal calm exterior to an indescribably angry and bitter expression. As he walked from the room, he suddenly turned to the Press and said "Austria has ruined everything...most likely due to their being rotten to the core with greed. I will forfeit EVERYTHING to see that they are exterminated like the dogs that they are. Betrayal was not in my vocabulary...but now it is...and that sour taste of bile will stay with me until Austrian lands have been completely razed." Andy-All: More great press for our edifacation and to those that don't like it, don't read it! AUTUMN 1902 DEADLINE: 09:00 GMT, Monday 11th September, 2006.
