PRESS Andy-All: Please don't forget the retreats for Spring 1903. Andy-All: Please can you all remember to label your orders with the game name - Your power - and the season the orders are for. Aus-All: The trouble of our Archduke is great, but we have a hope! We wait the arise of our sun! Franz von Beckembauer Tur-All: As the Sultan reflected on the last season he felt he may have some reason for optimism. His ancillary fleet had succesfully deployed into the waters of the Aegean and were patrolling all sea routes into and around Constantinople. These vessels were only lightly armed as he had no wish for their activities to be misconstrued as aggressive; they were there simply to demarcate his territory to any watching power and draw a metaphorical line in the sand. His army had succesfully re-inforced and upgraded the defences of Constantinople and his men were prepared to defend the city, whatever the cost. To the east, his army had moved to Armenia and was now carrying out a series of manouvres designed to show their preparedness for war. Whilst initial indications from the Northern powers indicated that they had taken advantage of the noble French effort to stabilise the South, reports on the diplomatic front seemed to suggest that there was some evidence of a thaw in the rather frosty relationships that had been developing. Nearer to home there seemed to be a softening of the intial hostility demonstrated in previous seasons by his immediate neighbours but the Sultan knew that in this arena, more than others, actions speak louder than words. It was therefore with some apprehension that he anticipated the results of the forthcoming season. Spring 1903 DEADLINE: 09:00 GMT, Tuesday 7th February, 2006.
