GM Andy Scott

Provisional orders to me by 1st January 2006 please
Spring 1901 deadline is Sunday 15th January 09:00 GMT

Diplomats,
I would like to welcome everyone to your new 1-week Tournament game named "Mako". My name is Andy Scott and I will let all of you read my bio on the games page for those few of you who have yet cross my path :-))
The line up is as follows:

GM - Me you fool pay attention!! Andy Scott (a.j.scott@dsl.pipex.com)

AUSTRIA - Sebastion Egerton-Read - seb.eread@btinternet.com
ENGLAND - Jonathan Langman - JLan3000@aol.com
FRANCE - Alfred Differ - adiffer@gmail.com
GERMANY - Craig Cunningham - ckcl@sympatico.ca
ITALY - Lars Topholm - topholmtopholm@hotmail.com
RUSSIA - Doug Stewart - CanberraDoug@yahoo.com.au
TURKEY - Christopher Yaure - cyaure@aol.com

The deadline for Spring 1901 orders will be 09:00 am GMT 15th January!
After this first season we will be on the normal 1-week schedule in otherwords every Sunday at 09:00 am GMT.
The rules are as follows and please read carefully:

[1] HOUSE RULES
This game will be run to the Diplomacy 2000 House Rules, which can be found at http://www.lancedal.demon.co.uk/dip2000/diprules/diprules.htm - the most important rule being that deception of the GM is strictly disallowed. Our FAQ is at http://www14.brinkster.com/dip2k/faq.asp.

[2] PARTICIPATION
All players are expected to participate until their role in the game ends, which could be over half a year in real time - the average game with weekly deadlines lasts 3-6 MONTHS, 2-week deadlines 6-9 months, and 3-week deadlines well over a year in some cases. If you don't think you can provide this level of commitment, please let me know NOW so I can arrange for you to be replaced before the game starts.

[3] NMR'S AND ANARCHY
Because this is a no-standby game, in the event of a player failing to order for two consecutive seasons their country will be placed in anarchy and they will no longer be allowed to participate in the game or sign up for any new Diplomacy 2000 games. Their country's units will stand unsupported and if dislodged will disband.

[4] GAME SYSTEM
The game will be run on a two-season per game year basis, meaning that all sets of orders you submit should include where necessary retreats and, if the coming season is an autumn one, adjustments (builds and/or disbands) - there is no separate phase for any of these! Any units that have to retreat after the season's moves have been processed but which you have not specified retreats for will be disbanded. If you specify a retreat or retreats for a unit that is not dislodged, the retreat(s) are of course ignored. You may specify multiple retreats to provide protection against the possibility that the province(s) you choose for a unit to retreat to are occupied. You may also specify retreats, disbands and/or builds that are conditional on that season's orders, provided they are not ambiguous.

[5] SUBMITTING ORDERS
All sets of orders you submit to me should contain in the subject line the name of the game, the country you're playing as, and the season you're ordering for. You can change your orders as many times as you wish in the run-up to the deadline simply by sending me a fresh set. Please only submit complete sets of orders; I will refer ONLY to the most recently received set of orders I've received from each country when adjudicating.

[6] RECEIPT OF ORDERS
I will acknowledge via e-mail all sets of orders I receive. If you have not received a confirmation of receipt of your orders within 24 hours I would advise you to resubmit them. If you still get no response, it might be an idea to copy them to another Diplomacy 2000 GM - but please only do this if I have been silent for a long time. Note that I will generally not inform you of misorders unless you clearly don't understand the rules or your orders are written in a fashion I don't understand. I would encourage all of you to save my confirmation of order's recv'd emails as proof if I misplace or loose a set of orders.

[7] PROVISIONAL ORDERS
I would advise you to submit a complete set of provisional orders as soon as you can after receiving each season's adjudication. I almost always send mine in the same day I review the adjudication and then modify them as I conduct diplomacy with my fellow players! This is a good habit to get into as PCs and servers have a vindictive habit of crashing at the most inopportune moments, or other, unforeseen commitments may prevent you from submitting your orders before the deadline. If you do miss a deadline and NMR as a consequence, I will not re-adjudicate on your part - just make sure you get the next season's orders in on time.

[8] PRESS
Press is encouraged and will be accepted provided it is submitted along with a complete set of orders. I do thoroughly enjoy good-humored banter and encourage being BCC’d in on all of your deceit/lies/stabs. If no handle is given, it will default to the first three letters of your country's capital (for example, 'BUD' for Austria). Press from me will carry the handle 'Grizzy', which no other player may use. I reserve the right to withhold press I consider abusive or overly provocative. For more information about press, see our FAQ.

[9] DEADLINES
Unless I specify otherwise, in which case I will give you at least a few days' notice, the deadline for each season's orders will be Sundays at 09:00 am GMT. I generally won't accept requests to extend deadlines except under extreme circumstances. I will accept orders late *IF* I haven't actually begun the adjudication as I generally adjudicate 4 to 5 games on the same day! But a rule of thumb would be to adhere to my deadlines incase I happen to adjudicate your game first.

[10] TIME OF ADJUDICATION
I will normally adjudicate within a few hours of the deadline at most, notwithstanding extreme personal circumstances or important commitments on my part. I will accept orders received after the deadline so DON'T be LATE! I would strongly advise you not to discuss the game with the other players until after you've received and seen the adjudication. If you have not received the adjudication (or an explanation for any delay) within 48 hours of the deadline, please try e-mailing me; if this garners no response, try Tom Tweedy [tom@lancedal.demon.co.uk]

[11] ERRORS IN ADJUDICATION
If there are any problems with the adjudication get in touch with me as soon as possible after the deadline, so that I can sort it out with the minimum of disturbance to the game.

[12] WEB SITE
I will post a copy of each season's adjudication and map at (please note these sites are not up yet):
http://www28.brinkster.com/ajscott/showadj.asp?game=Mako (adjudication)
http://www28.brinkster.com/ajscott/showmap.asp?game=Mako (map)
You will be able to access previous adjudications and maps at:

These links will be working when you receive this document.

[13] E-MAIL ATTACHMENTS
Do not send me any e-mails containing executable attachments without my prior consent, because with the proliferation of viruses around nowadays I will just delete them.

That's all I have to say for the moment. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any queries regarding the game - answering them is part of my job as GM, after all. Write to each other often, I hope you all enjoy the game, and good luck.
Regards,
Andy Scott
