GERMANY (David Cooke) Thanks to all the players except France and England, after both of you anarchied, I had no chance. I made a couple of mistakes myself, and because of this I was due to be consigned to the bin, but France and I allied and then he anarchied. An enjoyable game Thanks to Andy for GMing ... a flawless job David

RUSSIA (Michael SMith) Not a lot to really say about this game as I benefited the most from the two anarchies. My original plan was not to end up in a protracted war with Turkey but let him duke (no pun intended!!) it out with Austria so I let him have the Black Sea in the first move. I did however make one miscalculation in seeing a Turkish Army in Armenia I ordered my Fleet in Sevastopol to Armenia to try and bounce him. In the end it cost me Sevastopol which at the time look problematic but in the end it was not a concern as I was able to contain Turkey. My plan was to move the fleets to the MAO and block him in the Med and then with the two anarchies and Germany on the ropes I think I easily could have reached the 16 centres first. I proposed the R/T split early on as the game was not much of a challenge so I am quite Happy with a draw and will move on to the next epic. Hats off to Andy who ran a great game after our false start. If any of the players want to exchange thoughts on the game my email is mike_L6m@yahoo.ca. Michael Smith Sr.

TURKEY (Christopher Yaure) Thanks to GM Andy Scott for running this game, including the restart after he inadvertently sent out the player names on turn 1. Unfortunately, most of the players were unwilling to emulate Andy and repair their own errors. England fails to order its build in Fall 1901, then anarchies by Fall 1902. France, despite holding 6 dots, facing no serious opposition and having a clear opportunity to bring government back to the British Isles, anarchies in Fall 1903. Austria NMRs in Spring 1902, then spends most of the rest of the game standing, occasionally supporting, not ordering retreats, and appearing to play solely to avoid greylisting. Italy tries, but despite the anarchies to its North and West, is unable to gain any ground, eventually choosing to stand and NRO when the end is in sight. Credit to Germany, which after NMRing in Fall 1901, fought gallantly (and single-handedly in the North) against the rapidly growing Russian empire. Congratulations to my co-victor, Russia, who took advantage of the anarchies in the West to expand, albeit very cautiously. As Turkey, and surrounded by players who were actually submitting moves, I gratefully took what was given to me. Austria appeared unwilling to work with me to create a line against Russia, and with Russia having quicker access to the undefended dots left behind by England and France, I willingly accepted the unsatisfying draw. All in all, this was Gunboat at its worst, here our opponents were not just not known, but not there.Return to Top
GM (Andy Scott) First off I have to say this game got off to the shakeiest of starts purely down to me messing up and having to reassign countries. This seemed to somehow set the tone for the game, 2 anarchies and numerous NMR's spread around made it very nearly unplayable and from a GM's point of view it was a very frustrating and unsatisfying game to run from that aspect alone! Congratulations to Russia and Turkey, although I have to say given the state of the North I would have thought Russia should have got the solo but I can also appreciate that it would have been a slightly empty victory. I have to say David as Germany impressed me purely for his tenacious stickability, he got off to a frigthful start due to a misunderstanding and failed to build in the first year but then kept plugging away even when he was sold down the river by France's Anarchy. Well done to all of you who managed to get through this game. See you all around on dip 2000 some more I hope,
Andy
