ENGLAND (Herbert van Doorn) First I would like to thank Andy Scott for being our GM. He did a great job even though the game was plagued/played by NMR's and dragged out end. This was my third game on the site. The different kind of players will never seize to amaze me. This time I met Martin Styler and we formed a GE alliance before the s01 move. And stuck to it until the end. I deceived France into keeping faith that I would stab Germany the first few seasons. I deceived Russia into believing I would not move against him, after taking Norway, but ended up in Moscow. And when the Turkish and English units bordered eachother in Russia I deceived Turkey long enough for us to take Italy. If Turkey had been able to rally Italy and Austria together at that point, they would have been able to stop us. But because they stayed divided until I was in the med. It was impossible to stop us. There are three players in this game that deserve congratulations and mentioning. That is Dave Collins as Turkey who kept us from taking him apart for a very long time all by himself. And he continued to play until the end, even though he did not answer any emails anymore. But he is a good player and I am sure that if he and I had allied the game would have been different but also good. Pieter Muller, played France and got kicked out soon enough by Germany, and me but still held us off long. And played a good game, and kept emailing me trying to get me to stab Germany. And ofcourse Martin Styler, who played Germany and was my ally throughout the entire game. We misscommunicated a couple of times, which lead to not completely perfect moves, but we stayed together. And he had no intention whatsoever to stab me at any point in the game. Even though I had. And even though I did think he wanted to solo too. When Turkey said he would throw the game to Germany I tried a lame attempt to even our center count and actually stabbed Germany. But it was already too late. And I was at the mercy of Martin. Who completely honored our agreement from S01 and made it a two-way draw. Wow. Thanks man. You are great! NMR'ing or going into Anarchy just because you can't win, is very sad. I think the mammies of those people always let them win, when they played memory as a child. Very sad. I wonder how those people act in real life and how much they cry when they can't get their way. Hope you all get over it some day and learn to take responsibility. As for the real players and GM in this game: thank you. Sorry if I betrayed you. Forgiveness to all that betrayed me and a thanks again to Martin. It was beautiful. Greetz. Herbert.

GERMANY (Martin Styler) I have enjoyed playing this game although I can see why others may have found it rather frustrating. I, of course, don't know who kept voting against the 2-way draw but I always assumed it was Turkey. In that case it could have ended a while ago. Maybe I've got too old since I last played Dippy by mail many years ago but I've struggled in most of my recent games to cope with the level of stabbing that goes on, mainly driven by short-term greed. Working with Herbert on an alliance that lasted has been a pleasurable experiment, unless you were one of the other players or the GM. Originally we just got together to destroy France; there wasn't a grand 17= plan. Martin

TURKEY (Dave Collins) I started badly after being stabbed by Russia. I allied with Austria & Italy and held off the Bear. When Italy stabbed Austria, England also stabbed Russia. I made use of the chaos to grab Sev and most of the Balkans. By then France was on his knees. I tried to negotiate an alliance with England (by then in Moscow) to attack Germany and split the board between us. England strung me along but never delivered. It is now evident that E/G were in total alliance from 1901 and that neither had any interest in winning outright. Realising this alliance was not about to be broken I tried to organise an A/I/T block to hold the last minimal southern stalemate line, however Italy refused to play, so I was left to conduct a fighting retreat and wait for an E/G stab which never happened. Inexorably I got pushed back, but if all I could get was a survival I felt that one or other of E/G should take the victory. I even tried toward the end to give the solo to Germany against his will, unfortunately work and personal circumstances intervened, I was out of communication for five weeks, and NMR'd on the final turn. Thanks to Andy for impeccable GM'ing. Congratulations to all players for a game largely free of NMR's. Well done to E/G for the draw. I do not agree with their philosophy, but it nevertheless took some organising. I am not likely to be able to commit to another Dip game for some time due to personal circumstances. This one having taken far longer than I anticipated when I signed up, but when/if I return I will be happy to ally with any of you (including Andy) …

GM (Andy Scott) Shannow was I have to say a not a great game. To put it simply in the 12 turns up to Autumn 1906 we had 9 NMR's and an Anarchy. That is an excessive amount and simply ruined the game. It is indicative that the the only two players not to NMR were Germany and Turkey that they did so well and England only did so in S02 and was able to recover because of Germany's generosity. From Autumn 1906 there were only the three powers of E,G and T left and E/G seemed a proven partnership. As was predictable T was unable to break them and the relentless grinding down of T was what the remainder of the game was about. I have to apologise again to Martin and Herbert for an e-mail I wrote them, whilst I have no regrets about the subject matter in bringing the game to a close the tone I used was over the top. Suffice it to say the in the 12 turn leading up to the last they had still been able only to reduce Turkey to three units, Germany had passed up on two oppertunities to win with a solo and it was obvious that the game was only going to end in a draw between E and G. My e-mail to them both pointed out the time involved for all concerned and that the game was effectively over, Thankfully this got the desired result and the game was brought to an agreed draw. However I am glad that the air was cleared come the end of the game and that everyone saw sense and agreed the draw. I also have to apologise for the length of time it has taken me to get the EGS done, sorry :-)) Regards, AndyReturn to Top
