Hi everybody, my name is Frederic Bartlett, but Fred is okay too. I was born in 1969, so you can figure my age out for yourselves…! I am an American, born in “The City of Brotherly Love” (Philadelphia), but I’ve been a permanent resident of Germany since 1991. I live in a small town called Schmallenberg, which is in the area marked ‘Ruhr’ on the Diplomacy map. I work as a school teacher, teaching Biology and English (and Physics if someone twists my arm) to kids between the 5th and 10th grades. I have a German wife and two children, a boy and a girl, who are being brought up bilingually (the kids, I mean, not my wife). I played Diplomacy as a teenager (my dad taught me) way back when, and although I didn’t play for many years after that, it never entirely left my mind. Then one day I realized that there must be internet sites dedicated to the game, and sure enough…. Just like my esteemed co-GM Josh Sansom, my first game at this site was “And the Sky Full of Stars” (which ended in a draw between Josh and myself), and I’ve been at it ever since. I’m afraid I’m only a mediocre player, not like some of the other GM aces, but that doesn’t keep me from thoroughly enjoying the game, especially the back-and-forths between players. Hobbies? Apart from Diplomacy? Not too many, I’m afraid. My job keeps me extremely busy, also on the weekends, so there isn’t much time. But I love movies, enjoy lots of board games, and am a Monty Python fan (something I share with a lot of other people at this site).
